KiwiTuner is developed and operated by [developer or company legal name] (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how KiwiTuner handles information when you use the app.
Information we collect
KiwiTuner does not require an account and does not operate a server that collects personal information from the app.
We do not use advertising, analytics, tracking technologies, data brokers, third-party analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising or tracking.
Information stored on your device
KiwiTuner stores the following information locally on your device:
– Selected receiver, frequency, mode, and app settings
– Custom receiver names, addresses, protocols, and ports
– Saved stations, presets, and receiver favorites
– Receiver connection-health information
– Cached public beacon status information
– Optional receiver passwords
Receiver passwords are stored in the iOS Keychain. Other settings and favorites are stored within the app’s local storage. This information is not sent to us.
To remove a stored password, clear it in the receiver editor or remove the custom receiver. Do this before uninstalling KiwiTuner because iOS may retain Keychain items after an app is removed. Deleting the app removes its ordinary local settings and caches according to iOS behavior.
Receiver connections
KiwiTuner connects directly to the KiwiSDR or compatible receiver you select. The receiver may receive:
– Your IP address and ordinary network-request information
– A KiwiTuner client identifier
– The requested frequency, reception mode, and spectrum settings
– An optional receiver password when authentication is required
This information is sent only to operate the receiver connection. It is not sent to us.
Receivers are independently operated. Their operators determine whether connection information is logged, how long it is retained, and how it is otherwise handled. Only connect to receivers you trust.
KiwiTuner supports both secure WebSocket connections (wss) and unencrypted WebSocket connections (ws). Traffic sent using ws, including a receiver password, is not encrypted and may be visible to parties able to observe the network connection. Prefer wss whenever the receiver supports it.
Because receivers may be located worldwide, a connection may transmit network information to another country.
Public information services
When you open Amateur Spots, KiwiTuner requests public radio-spot information from Spothole at spothole.app. The request does not include your receiver address, saved password, location, callsign, searches, favorites, or a KiwiTuner user identifier. Spothole’s server necessarily receives ordinary network information such as your IP address and request time.
When you use the International Beacon monitor, KiwiTuner may request public clock and beacon-status information from NCDXF at ncdxf.org. These requests do not include your receiver address, password, tuning history, beacon captures, or a KiwiTuner user identifier. NCDXF’s server necessarily receives ordinary network information such as your IP address and request time. Public beacon status information may be cached on your device for approximately 24 hours.
Spothole, NCDXF, and individual receiver operators are independent services. Their handling and retention of network information are governed by their own practices.
Audio, spectrum, and location information
Receiver audio, spectrum data, and beacon spectrograms are processed on your device to provide playback and visual displays. We do not receive or upload this content, and KiwiTuner does not record your microphone.
The maps use published coordinates for receivers, transmitters, and beacons. KiwiTuner does not request or collect your device’s geographic location.
The local-network permission is used only to connect to a receiver at an address you select. KiwiTuner does not use this permission to determine your location.
Support communications
If you contact us for support, we may receive the information you voluntarily provide, such as your email address, message, attachments, or diagnostic details. We use this information only to respond to your request, investigate the reported issue, protect the app, or meet legal obligations.
Support communications are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes and are then deleted or anonymized, unless longer retention is required by law.
Disclosure and third-party protection
We do not disclose personal information to advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, affiliates, or marketing services.
We currently do not appoint third parties to process app-user information on our behalf. If this changes, we will require those providers to offer protections equal to those described in this policy and will update this policy and our App Store privacy disclosures.
Your choices and deletion
KiwiTuner does not maintain user accounts or a server-side user database.
You can:
– Edit or delete custom receivers, favorites, presets, and saved passwords within the app
– Disconnect from a receiver at any time
– Avoid opening Amateur Spots or the International Beacon monitor
– Revoke local-network access in the iOS Settings app
– Delete KiwiTuner to remove its ordinary local data and caches
Revoking local-network access may prevent connections to receivers on your local network.
You may ask us to delete support communications containing your personal information by contacting us at the address below. We may retain information where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Children’s privacy
KiwiTuner is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support communication, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Security
We use platform security features such as the iOS Keychain and encrypted HTTPS connections to supported public information services. However, no storage or transmission method is completely secure, and independently operated receivers may offer only unencrypted connections.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if KiwiTuner’s features, data practices, or legal obligations change. The revised policy will show a new “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated through the app or its public website when appropriate.
